This weekend is the H.E.L.L. compilation release show! Please come out and be there on time! There are a bunch of bands playing so we have to start the show on time and you don’t want to miss the openers. You’ll be able to get the H.E.L.L. compilation on vinyl (including a record release version on black limited to 54 copies). There are two shirt designs that are a collaboration between H.E.L.L. and Art Terror, and screenprinted posters. Also, there’s a really awesome raffle with a bunch of sponsors.

No matter where you get it, all the proceeds are going directly to help H.E.L.L. buy more bike helmets and put together more bike safety programs and outreach.

If you pre-ordered the cassette version of the H.E.L.L. comp through Antique Records, they are still coming! There was a slightly delay on the production side of things and we’ll update you here once they’re available. There will also be some cassettes available through Get Stoked! once the order comes in.

No Submission: Vermont Hardcore

A lot has been happening at Get Stoked! Records lately. Amidst all the preparation for the “One H.E.L.L. of a compilation” double vinyl LP, we’ve also been quietly putting together No Submission’s debut 7” EP. For those of you who don’t know, No Submission features the remaining members of Crucial Times. This 8 song EP in fact has songs that were originally intended for that band. The remaining members of the band, however, didn’t want to see these songs disappear into the proverbial abyss of hardcore/punk songs that once were, hence the creation of NO SUBMISSION.

This 7” is a split label release with Get Outta Town Records, based out of Boston, MA. Get Outta Town Records has worked with bands like The Geeks, Kill Your Idols, Offsides, Nightlights & Paint It Black. Check out the label at http://www.getouttatownrecords.com.The record will be available on opaque pink and coke bottle clear vinyl limited to 300 copies. Test presses should be arriving to us with a week or so and once they are approved we will post information about pre-orders. I just wanted to repost this to get it some more visibility again. Please repost this to help spread the word! We’re at 75 preorders for the 2xLP comp right now, 33 shirts and 40 cassettes. It’d be amazing to hit 100 pre-orders of the LP (if not more) before the pre-orders are done. 2 1/2 weeks to go before they are! So help get the word out.

In 2007, Gordon Riker & Kelly Wallace both tragically passed away in bike accidents in Boston, MA. Shortly after, friends of their’s started a non-profit organization titled H.E.L.L. (Helping Everyone Live Longer). H.E.L.L. is a DIY group that primarily operates in Boston’s punk and hardcore scene that both Gordon and Kelly were heavily involved in. H.E.L.L.’s main goal is to give out free helmets from donations while raising bike safety awareness. You can learn more about H.E.L.L. at www.helpingeveryonelivelonger.org

For the last year, we’ve been working on a compilation to help raise money and awareness for H.E.L.L. This compilation features songs and artwork from Gordon and Kelly’s friends, family, and favorite bands, as well as a few others who have lost someone close to them. Contributions are not just primarily from the Greater Boston area, but also Florida, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Quẽbec. All proceeds from this compilation will go directly to helping keep H.E.L.L. alive.

The black and grimace purple aside/bside vinyl is exclusive for pre-orders. The tshirt is a collaboration between H.E.L.L. and Art Terror, the clothing company Gordon Riker started while attending the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. If you pre-order the album through MerchNOW, you’ll also have a chance to win a test press of the compilation.

The Vermont Hardcore: Past & Present Compilation CD is out now (actually its been out for a few months and we just haven’t updated this website)! You can buy the CD directly from us for $5 on our web store. The disc consists of 30 tracks spanning nearly 30 years of punk and hardcore from the Green Mountain State. This release is limited to 100 copies, so get it before they’re gone for good!

The compilation is coming together really well. Hopefully I’ll be able to make the final announcement soon. We’re just waiting on a few last songs, and then the mastering process begins while I finish compiling all the artwork. Everything is coming out way better than I ever expected, and their are some killer songs on this, so please spread the word to your friends and keep an eye out here for more updates!

Helping Everyone Live Longer

Hello everyone,

Four years ago today, a good friend of mine by the name of Gordon Riker was killed while riding his bike down Huntington Ave in Boston. Gordon was a classmate of mine from MassArt, a friend, a fellow designer, and someone who I really respected artistically. Gordon would have turned 23 a few weeks later.

Approximately a month after Gordon passed away, a young woman named Kelly Wallace was killed while riding her bike at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Harvard Ave in Boston. Gordon and Kelly had been friends and soon after his death she had begged people to be careful when riding. Kelly had “wishful thinking” tattooed on her arms and had been described as someone who got along with everyone. I didn’t know Kelly, but we share many friends and I feel like I would have liked her if I had.

It was quite the shock that two deaths like this happened so close to each other in the same city within the same circle of friends. Immediately afterwards, there were a slew of tribute concerts, fundraisers, and ghosts bikes to honor Gordon and Kelly. Also, a few friends of Kelly’s decided start up a non-profit organization titled H.E.L.L. (Helping Everyone Live Longer). While it raises awareness of bike safety, H.E.L.L.’s main goal is give out free helmets with the proceeds they receive. In it’s highly successful first year, H.E.L.L. gave out over 300 helmets to folks throughout the world. H.E.L.L. shut down in Summer 2008, and was left with an uncertain future…

In late 2009, Andrew Murray restarted H.E.L.L. with the permission of those who originally ran it. Andrew narrowed the focus of H.E.L.L. to the Boston-area in order to play a greater role in the local community. They still hand out bike helmets, and also sponsor and organize cycling-advocating events in the Boston area.

Last April I moved to Burlington, VT. Soon after getting here, I got involved in the local music scene and started a DIY record label called Get Stoked! Records with two friends of mine, Michael Wierzbicki and Matt Kimball. All we wanted to accomplish was to try to help friends of ours put out some awesome music for others to hear.

I’m very excited to announce a project that we’ve been working on for the past 6 months. Get Stoked! Records will be releasing “One H.E.L.L. of a Compilation”, a collection of music from friends of Gordon and Kelly, bands they liked, as well as people that may have known someone else who got into a bike accident or just want to support H.E.L.L.’s mission. The compilation is really diverse and is from musicians from all over including Boston, other parts of Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Florida, and New York. A bunch of songs on the comp will be exclusive, new, and rare songs.

The compilation will be released on CD and hopefully a very limited run on vinyl (most likely it’ll be a 2 or 3 LP set). Not only is it a collaborative music project, but there are also 10+ artists that are contributing artwork that will be included in the insert along with bike safety information.

There isn’t a release date at the moment. We’re still waiting on some bands to submit music and are working on the artwork. We hope to start pre-sales sometime in the next few months. In the meantime, here’s a list of some of the confirmed bands. There are more bands to come!
